Artist Statement
In my recent work, I explore women’s experiences of memory, place, belonging, and selfhood. The female figure moves through landscapes and interior spaces—walking, resting, travelling, looking, and returning—often occupying moments between departure and arrival, uncertainty and recognition.
Drawing from autobiographical memory and my experience of living between Korean and Newfoundland cultures, I am interested in how identity continues to shift through time, movement, and our relationship with place. Figures, landscapes, vessels, and familiar objects become visual metaphors for independence, transition, connection, and home.
My paintings move between observation and imagination, allowing real places and remembered experiences to enter the same pictorial space. Rather than presenting a fixed narrative, I am interested in creating moments that remain open—spaces in which memory, solitude, and belonging can coexist.
