Artist Statement
Building upon the thematic exploration of embracing figures from my previous series, Two Hearts, I find continued inspiration in the intricacies of human connection. In the Chum-Painted Dance series, I delve into the realm of dance movements, yet diverge from a strict adherence to specific styles such as tango or waltz. Instead, my focus lies on a diverse array of embracing figures, each capturing an essence of togetherness. Through direct expression and keen observation, I examine the interplay of body lines- how hands intertwine, shoulders align, faces angle, and hearts converge. The stage lighting serves to accentuate moments of romance while delicately tempering any overt eroticism, allowing the viewer to immerse in the human connection.
The brushstrokes and composition in the series is a tribute to the subtleties and nuances of interpersonal relationships, a reflection upon experiences of love, intimacy, and companionship. Through this exploration, I seek to capture the dance of life, where every embrace becomes a poignant expression of human nature.
