I was honoured to be invited to create a painting for the Mary MacDonald Award.
For this special commission, I created Whispers of Light, a small oil painting that reflects on hope, tenderness, and the quiet strength we carry within us. The figure holds glowing spheres gently in her hands, as though she is gathering and protecting small pieces of light.
I wanted the painting to feel intimate and still—a moment of quiet reassurance. Light does not always arrive dramatically. Sometimes it appears softly, in the smallest gestures, and stays with us when we need it most.
In the stillness, she cradles light itself—each sphere a fragile ember of hope. It is not grand, but gentle. Not loud, but steady. And sometimes, that is all we need to find our way forward.
